Alpha TestAn alpha test is a stage of pre-release testing of a product (i.e., software) or service (i.e., Web page). Alpha testers may be individuals or companies in the public domain. Typically, alpha tests are initial tests on a product to flush out bugs that weren't found during in-house lab testing. Users or organizations wanting to alpha test products usually must be approved by the company making the product or providing the service. Because products in the alpha test phase are often unpredictable, it is not a good idea to alpha test a product in a live environment. After alpha testing is completed and initial bugs are fixed, a product typically enters the "beta test" phase, which is a larger release of the product for testing purposes.
